Gustav Klimt
As prominent member of the renewed art group Secession, Klimt is one of the most prominent pathfinders of modern painting. In addition to that, his ornamental Jugendstil irresistibly evokes the Viennese fin-die-siècle feeling: elitist, conventional-liberal, sometimes decadent-pleasing-decorative. The combination of the monumental style, the almost sycophantic ornamentation and classic symbolism creates a very recognisable oeuvre – created against the background of the characteristic romance of his time.
The Kiss
Behind the ornamental façade, a pure, almost esoteric happiness lies hidden, classically embedded in a sea of flowers. The lovers seem to have broken free of this world in a way typical for the Jugendstil. An impression that is enhanced by the use of the gold-tones and gold leaf.
This statue is 19 cm high.
