Gustav Klimt
As prominent member of the renewed art group Secession, Klimt is one of the most prominent pathfinders of modern painting. In addition to that, his ornamental Jugendstil irresistibly evokes the Viennese fin-die-siècle feeling: elitist, conventional-liberal, sometimes decadent-pleasing-decorative. The combination of the monumental style, the almost sycophantic ornamentation and classic symbolism creates a very recognisable oeuvre – created against the background of the characteristic romance of his time.
Fulfilment
The love couple turns their back on the world, hiding in a rigid embrace behind an abundance of Jugendstil-ornamentation. This is part of the decorative design for a mosaic on the frieze of the dining room at Palais Stoclet in Brussels.
This statue is 35 cm high.
